The non-profit cultural association New Italian Cinema Event  (NICE) is about to present to the New York public seven new Italian movies. Although different in gender and style, they have something in common: they are all multi-awarded and praised by the critics.

Black Sea, The Girl by the Lake, Don't Waste Your Time, Johnny!, Lessons in Chocolate, A Night, Cover Boy-The Last Revolution, The Rest of The Night: all these titles sound really familiar to our Italian fellows, that already had a chance to see the movies from a long time. Now is America's turn.

It has been so since 1991, when the association was founded. The American branch has indeed been the last to be created, after the ones in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Amsterdam founded.

From that time on the festivals organized by NICE have gained increasing prestige, also thanks to the partnerships estabilished with some of the greatest producers and distributors worldwide, including Miramax, United Artists, Touchstone Pictures, MGM etc.. They have always shown deep interest in the activities carried on by the association.

As by tradition, the seven movies presented will compete to obtain the Premio Città di Firenze (City of Florence Award). The decision on which movie to award will be taken by the American public itself: it will be called to vote through cards distributed before each screening.

The festival will also be enriched by the presentation of two movies that have not been included in the official competition: "Puccini and the Girl" and the short film "Bab al Samah".

Nice New Italian Cinema Events is a non-profit cultural association founded in 1991 that aims to promote the new Italian cinema abroad through cultural exchanges and festivals. Its founders and members have been working for more than a decade in the organization of such international film festivals. For each Festival the selection committee chooses seven feature films among the best made by up-and-coming film directors throughout the year. Nice USA, the most established one, shows a selection of seven shorts made recently. The films presented in the Nice USA Festival are eligible to receive the “Premio Città di Firenze” (City of Florence Award) which is decided by the American audience by voting cards handed out before each screening. The prestige of the Festival has increased with the passing of years thanks also to the relations established with the most important producers and distributors (Miramax, United Artists, Touchstone Pictures, MGM etc.) and the interest they have shown for the event.

Nice also collaborated in the organization of several festivals of Italian cinema in Scotland (1992), in Puerto Rico (1993), in New Zealand (1998/2000), and in Brazil (2001, 2002).
