Description of Myself: I am a journalist and author who has contributed to many newspapers, magazines, and journals. My book An Offer We Can't Refuse: The Mafia in the Mind of America (Faber & Faber/Farrar, Straus, Giroux) examines the Mafia Mythology, one of the longest running shows in popular culture. My interests include culture and the arts, radical politics and social theory, sexuality, food (I'm a supporter, albeit somewhat critical one, of the Slow Food movement), and public health. I'm the grandson of immigrants from Sicily and Naples, and I enjoy visiting both places, although I've had a few less than wonderful experiences in both. I live in Long Island City, New York with my longtime partner Rob, a Jewish italophile (lucky me!). I-italy represents my first adventure in blogging and I enjoy it immensely -- freedom, immediacy of communication, and no annoying editor to tell me, "You can't say that!"
